A National Civic Initiative Calls on Workers to Know, Claim, and Defend Their Constitutional Rights
Dhaka / Nationwide | 02.01.2025
A new people-led civic initiative, Sramik.org, has formally opened participation for workers across Bangladesh, calling on them to know their rights, protect their dignity, and stand together under the Constitution.
Sramik.org has been established as a non-governmental, non-political platform operating under the wider civic framework of Jatiya.org. The platform is rooted in the Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, particularly Article 7(1), which affirms that sovereignty belongs to the people.
From Labour to Citizenship
In Bangladesh, workers are often viewed only as labour—measured by productivity rather than protected as citizens. Millions face unsafe working conditions, wage injustice, job insecurity, and fear of retaliation, while remaining unaware of the constitutional protections available to them.
Sramik.org seeks to change this reality by repositioning workers not as dependents on favour or power, but as rights-bearing citizens entitled to dignity, legal protection, and equality before law.
What Makes Sramik.org Different
Sramik.org is not a trade union, not a government body, and not a political movement. It does not replace existing institutions or encourage unlawful action. Instead, it provides: Rights awareness based on the Constitution, A safe civic space for workers to learn and connect. Peaceful, lawful unity without political alignment. Protection of privacy and non-retaliation. The platform focuses on empowerment through knowledge, not confrontation.
Who Can Participate
Participation is open to all workers, including those in: Garments and factories, Agriculture and rural labour. Construction, transport, and informal sectors. Domestic and contract work. Migrant and returning labour. Special emphasis is placed on workers who are unorganised, informally employed, or excluded from institutional protection.
A Constitutional, Not Confrontational Path
Sramik.org promotes a simple but powerful idea:
Rights are strongest when they are understood and exercised lawfully.
The platform encourages workers to engage peacefully, document issues responsibly, and rely on constitutional principles rather than fear, violence, or political dependency.
Founder’s Perspective
The initiative was founded under the civic vision of Dr. Raju Ahmed Dipu, LL.M. (UK), who has long argued that the strength of a nation is measured by how it treats its workers.
His guiding message for Sramik.org is:
“Workers do not need permission to have rights—only knowledge to defend them.”
An Invitation to Workers and Society
Sramik.org invites workers, community leaders, civil society organisations, and responsible institutions to engage in building a Bangladesh where:Workers are protected, not exploited, Knowledge replaces fear, Unity replaces isolation. The Constitution works for everyone
